City: Villa Altagracia
Major: Civil Engineering
Why I Love USU: My favorite thing about Utah State University is the friendliness of the people.
Why I Chose USU: After completing my degree in Civil Engineering at Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo and worked on several structural engineering firms and projects for about two years and a half, I knew Structural Engineering was the field in which I wanted to build up a career. However, I had noticed that doing the structural design of complex structures requires further knowledge, which I could only obtain by continuing my education towards a post-graduate degree. I chose USU among other scholarship options (Newcastle university in the UK, and Polytechnic University of Catalonia, Polytechnic University of Cartagena and Polytechnic University of Valencia in Spain), because of the friendly environment, the excellent link that USU has with my home country and the challenge of doing my master degree using a different language. Also, learning subjects based in American Engineering Codes, which are the ones my country uses. Furthermore, enrolling and completing my Master's degree at USU will offer me a solid background for a PhD degree by participating in research activities and taking specialized courses. With this degree, I will be able to contribute to both research and education in my country with the intent of improving quality teaching and developing projects in structural engineering we deal with everyday.
My Plans After I Graduate: After completing my degree, I plan to go back to my home country and contribute with research and education in my country.
Major: Global Communication
Why I Love USU: The friends I've made.
Why I Chose USU: I came to USU for the Global Academy program during the summer of 2012 and loved the campus. A year later, I applied for a scholarship offered from my government and was accepted.
My Plans After I Graduate: To work and go for a Master's degree.
